Akaelae is updating temporarily on Shivae.net. Pleaes pass this on. There is also an update for today!

I will likely take a few more commissions after the holidays to make up for the $175 gap in finances ... and will likely take more in January. The sites being down has severely hurt ad revenue. :( IF you want to get in your requests now, feel free to send them in. (I don't have access to my email account at the moment.)

Btw - me on TGT Podcast http://tgtwebcomics.com/archive/2009/ep78-ad/

Those of you with paid accounts, you get a month (or however long it takes for Cyantian.net to return for free. Those of you waiting for me to APPROVE your accounts, you also get a month free on top of what you asked for once the account is set up.

Future Shivae! RPG Forums - Next will be Cyantian's RPG forums. I'm tired of dealing with Dreamhost and want the sites consolidated 'next' to each other. :P I can't even get into my store.
Since it's that time of year and I'm asked every year, my wishlist has been updated and is located here.

If you enjoy the comics the number one thing you can do is direct other people to the sites (If you need linking images of a certain size or for a certain comic, just ask.. it'll get me to actually MAKE them...). :) Or consider donating to support them/ get the ad free viewing account.
I also have a huge mountain of email to go through! Still.

Movie I'd like to see with husband: Sherlock Holmes. Despite myself, I do want to take Kim to see Princess and the Frog. I am still intrigued by Avatar, for visuals alone. I'm not expecting a great story - I can't stand watching Titanic these days... it's so painfully BAD, yet I liked the movie for about 24 hours after I watched it. I think our Christmas movie will be Sherlock Holmes and likely Alvin and the Chipmunks for Kim. Really light Christmas season it seems for movies.

Not because of presents (I am capable of buying myself what I want). Not because of family (I can see them anytime. And I do!). And not even because of friends (If I'm only worrying about them once a year then I have bigger issues).

I like it because it's an excuse and a reason to do things for people and they do things for you - no strings attached.

There is no confusion or concern and no picking one friend over another. You do not have to be diplomatic over who you give a gift to. if someone needs it, you give it! Simple! If they do not need anything then you can both give a gift to someone who does and be happy together.

"This is a great thing you did for me! But why? What do you want back in return?" *suspicion*
"It's Christmas!"
"So it is!" *JOY*

This is something that well.. confuses me. Furries are well-known for 1) being poor and 2) Living hand-to-mouth where a sudden unexpected expense or job loss will start the panic wheels in motion.

I've already kiboshed #1 as I know too many furs with great, professional jobs. True there are some with great jobs who *still* have no money in the bank at the end of the day, but I maintain furs are no more poor than the rest of the world of this average age group. Given how geekish furs tend to be, they might actually be doing better!

But I confess total ignorance on the 2nd statement. I'm an artist - aside from summer or short-term jobs, I've never done the 5 to 9 thing and I have no dependents or loans or debts so my own expenses are very slight. I may never clear much after taxes but I've never been in a position where I might get laid off unexpectedly. So this isn't me being all high-nosed, I honestly just am that ignorant about people other than myself.

So what I want to know is do you live close enough to the chest that if you were laid off tomorrow it would mean having to call off all convention plans and try to get a new job before it comes to selling off your personal possessions to make ends meet.

Or to depersonalize that, does it seem that the above is the norm for most people around you?

The second part of this is how often I see artists take a customer's money then are unable to refund them because they have already spent it (not on materials for the commission but just spent it on personal living expenses).

Do you have a savings 'buffer' to account for unexpected expenses? If not is it because you immediately spend everything you make on living (aka rent, food, insurance, etc)? Or because you are unable to save money and spend it on things that are not strictly needed for life (aka videos, consoles, etc)

Again, if you rather not talk about your personal situation then tell me in general what you see happening around you instead.

I really just want to know if living month-to-month is the NORM for people active in the fur community or is more just a very outspoken minority?

I have an outstanding order I cannot fill until the person who paid for it contacts me. I can't see the order due to server problems.

I'm going to update comics on Monday .. here's why ... in the most horrible never ending month of December. Took car in to get the tires aligned because the car was pulling horribly to the left. An hour into the process, I'm taken back and shown a piece of the frame that the brake hits to brace itself that is bent slightly forward and HITTING a piece of the metal that attaches to the wheels in the front. This metal is bent TOWARD the front of the car.

We had to change our tires in June of this year, 18 months after we bought the car. They were worn inward and needed realignemnt. Back tires were moved to the front, new tires put on the back. We were told we needed an alignment yesterday and the tires should be replaced soon.

I use City Garage, they do just about everything there that's NOT heavy body work. They could not properly align the tires without the car pulling because of the damage to the frame that they couldn't see. They theorized, considering how fast I went through a set of tires, that this damage was likely caused while the car was being shipped to KIA before we purchased it... since you know... it's hard to damage the frame under normal driving circumstances .. especially not in this area up under the car. I was told to take it to Kia.

I took it to Kia - warning sign number 1 - the services advisor would not LISTEN to me telling him the above. He kept on going on about how: Oh how can your first set of tires wear out at 18,000 miles and the second at 6,000?? That's not US. (Yeah, you idiot. If you'd paid attention to me you would've heard me say the set currently on the front that need to be replaced soon are the two remaining ORIGINAL TIRES that were on the back where there wasn't a problem.) They took the car in and then brought it out and stated: The car's been involved in a collision and it was recent. This isn't OUR problem. You need to go talk to your insurance company. 9.9

Oh. and let me add that their mechanic rolled his eyes when I mentioned who had told me there was a problem, because working for Kia is obviously better than City Garage.

Tell me.. who am I going to believe? City Garage who has zero financial gain from my problem or Kia who stands to lose some money to fix my frame? City Garage who have an A rating on the BBB or Central Kia who have an F rating?? (The other Kia place in town has a B for comparison.) I think we just bought our last Kia from them.

And thus.. I'm catching up on hours of work that I was supposed to be doing and couldn't do while sitting at various car places over the last two days for a total of 10 hours.

Bte - me on TGT Podcast http://tgtwebcomics.com/archive/2009/ep78-ad/

So .. last night, our FIOS modem DIED. No internet. No problem.
Kim up at 5 am - You realize this is why you are exhausted every day after school, right Kim?
Bounced around, went to walmart to get much needed house supplies, cursed walmart for being so expensive.
Went to City Garage - I like City Garage - to get an oil change and make use of free wifi for an hour with my tablet. $30 oil change... expected, may another $10 for an air filter change - good grief, the prices have gone up - was told: You need your tires realigned - ok, pass on that, I know it's $80 and can't afford that on top of the other $40-$50. You also need: steering fluid, brake fluid and some other fluid changed (aka .. flushed.) I dumbly did NOT ask how much it was and assumed it'd be like $10 for each. :D I've never taken a car in and had it flushed and if I did... it was a LONG time ago. Asked an hour later after noting: Wow.. I've been sitting here for TWO HOURS - how much is it? $280. :D Yeah. I think I looked paniced enough that I was given a special card to get discounts off such work then and in the future. So $25 was taken off and the card's handy ... I just really did NOT want to pay so much all at once. :( So now I will be taking more of those Christmas commissions over the next week, two at a time so I can finish them before Christmas. They are $15 or $30 depending on what you want - info is on shivae.net

Kim fell down and scraped her chin so hard it's still bleeding three hours later. :P
And my husband found money in a parking lot. :D

Frumph and Troy are working on fixing the website problems ... and everything is capping off December to be the absolute worst month of an already horrible year, when it's supposed to be the best month. :(

I'm going to update Alien Dice tomorrow morning and likely start updating Akaelae on shivae.net until the problem with cyantian.net is fixed. I have 10 $10 upgrade coupons for Livejournal to give away. Basically it chops the price of upgrading your account to half. (Did someone pay on my livejournal account, btw? I could SWEAR it sent me a note it was expiring this month.)

Just a note to EVERYONE that wanted something in time for FC. If I do not have payment on it I have not made it. So if you want it I need that payment NOW.

I live across the border - Overnight shipping is NOT AN OPTION. And we do not have Saturday mail here - All shipping options take at least a week and I advocate TWO WEEKS MINIMUM to account for customs delays.

EVERYTHING needs to be shipped by January 4th. When means I need payment in full a good 2 weeks before that so I have TIME to build it! Which is NOW!

I will NOT carry anything with me on the plane to FC except my own personal costumes. I do not have room for anything more. So don't plan on that.

Monday, December 21st will be the deadline. If I do not have a good chunk of the money by then (or a good story and me willing to take start your project on personal trust that the $ will come soon), I CANNOT make your item in time for FC.

For those who have paid (or whom I waived payment) you're either finished or still well on track to be done in time :)

This is just directed to those who may not realize how soon FC really is - I can relate, it's hard to think of an event still a month away and not think you still have a month. But working down to the very last day before the convention is not an option for me.

Two uploads have been made to Cyantian.net I also have someone who has placed an order... that I can't find. I'm still trying to get logged into my store.

As is my norm, here's my 'I am going to FC' journal almost a month before the actual event. Given how busy I may be in the days running up to FC I figure it's best to do it now! rofl

For the first time evar, I'll have a suit of my personal character to wear!

Joecifur made the head and then I detailed it up slightly and made the paws and legs. She's a 3/4 partial (no torso) but the head is small and the rest of the suit is well-fitted, sleek fur so a simple t-shirt works great. This sort of suit is awesomely easy to wear and I suspect I'll be wandering through most of the con dressed up in either all or some of it.

All packed up and she looks.. just thrilled. Hahaha!

Since I managed to score a direct flight, I definitely want to bring my quadsuit. He takes up 3 totes so it would have been hard on me (traveling by myself) to go gather all my checked baggage between layovers lol

He needs a bit of refurbishing but I *think* it's all basic stuff. He's been hanging out on various shelves and containers and I haven't really gathered him up yet in one spot to check. But anyways so I'd put him on for any of the big events like the parade - I can't wear him for hours like a bipedal suit so best to don the targ when the most people are around :D Maybe the masquerade as well.

And that's it! I'll get there the Thursday and leave Monday and I'm staying in the main hotel so I'll be around for the whole thing.

You can approach me, though please don't grab or hug me unless I know you :>

I'm okay talking some business stuff, but I'm not going to bring the paperwork to be telling anyone where they are in line or hammering out new commissions or giving price quotes or anything like that. This convention is about hanging out and having fun :D

Sooo... I've been noticing that lately that many decent fursuits at auction for decently low prices are not getting any bids. When before, if it wasn't total junk, everything seemed to get sold.

Am I just seeing something that isn't there? Anyone else had the same thought?

And, if I am not indeed crazy, what do you think is causing it? Over-saturation of fursuit-makers? Continuing recession? Tis the Christmas season?

Which of course leads into the question, Is this temporary or the new status quo? Is the 'threshold' (for lack of a better word) rising when it comes to premade fursuits. Are people demanding more than they used to?

So far, my new work method seems to be working. Usually I do lettering last, now I'm doing lettering and panelling first then doing EVERYTHING digitally, including pencilling and inking. So far I've finished one page of Abby, two pages of Akaelae and am on the second page of Alien Dice - today I do as many comics as I can get done to see what I can get done. Trying to build a buffer and this just might do it. Removed several hours of steps involved in scanning and prepping pages that way. The rubber grips seem to be helping my fingers.

Visit the store for merchandise! Currently up are prints, tote bags and notebooks!

Movie I'd like to see with husband: The Men Who Stare at Goats. I'm .. not all that enthusiastic about The Princess and the Frog. On one hand, I was thrilled to see a 2D movie, but the trailers keep turning me off and on ... but I want to support the 2D movie. I am intrigued by Avatar, although it has some serious (in my eyes) flaws - I think it deserves to be seen in 3D until I hear otherwise. ;) For visuals alone. So here's a question for the greymuzzlers that have been doing the fursuit thing for a while (say between 5 and 10 years).

From around the year 2000 to now, Tell us how, in your opinion, 1) fursuit business has changed. 2) Fursuit buyers have changed. and 3) fursuit performance has changed. Or anything related to fursuits and fursuiting over time. The questions are just a springboard.
